We lost our dog due to unprofessional treatment at this practice. I can say a few words based on my personal experience being registered for over 5 years with this vet practice. Because I work in healthcare it is essential for quality of care to follow treatment protocols and continuity of care. Not in this practice , we saw over series of appointments 3 different vet doctors and it was clear that they had not been reviewing properly the medical history , failing to diagnose correctly our dog on the early stage and making wrong decisions in further treatment resulting ultimately in our dog’s death. Stay away if possible unless you need somebody for clipping dog’s nails

I have been using this practice for more than 20 years--way back in the days when it was privately owned and situated in Chickerell Road. So I am in a position to make a valid judgment. Sorry, but from a customer standpoint it just isn't the friendly, welcoming place of old. The vets(mostly very young) do their best. But the service has plummeted. On a recent visit I had to wait almost 20 minutes beyond the appointment time with a highly nervous cat. Could not a member of the reception staff(of which there were plenty) have just popped over to apologise and say they were running late? But the crunch came afterwards. I went to pay by card and was told that the system had been running very slowly. I therefore offered to pay the bill(£68) in cash in order to save time. I was told that cash wasn't accepted. What!!? There are notices on the website and in the surgery saying that payment is required after each visit. But does it say that legal tender is refused? If so, I've missed it. Anyway, that's the last straw. I'm now registering my two cats with another practice. Roll on the current investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority.

Dave Cumber vets have the most modern vet facilities in the area. On visiting, our dogs presenting issues are always fully discussed and all options to address these highlighted alongside the cost of any treatments. The health of my dog(s) is paramount to me, this vet also has the option of a pet plan designed to help spead costs over the year. My dogs are clearly always happy to visit and are always welcomed as if they are members of a large family.

I recently lost my beautiful girl, Lottie, and the way this practice handled everything was deeply upsetting. I had asked them to process a direct insurance claim for her passing, something they already had all the details for due to it all being the same illness I had claimed before for, but they didn’t do it. When my friend went to collect Lottie’s ashes, she was forced to argue with staff just to bring her home. They only released her after my friend made it clear it was their error in not processing the claim. On the day Lottie passed, I was handed a “sympathy” card that hadn’t even been written in. My friend also asked staff to cut four small tufts of Lottie’s hair for me and my family to keep my mum is in a wheelchair and couldn’t get to the vets to be with Lottie so this was vital for my mum to have, but when it came time to collect her ashes, the hair had been lost or not done. I was told they would call me about it, but they never did and still haven’t. Let’s face it it’s not something that can be reversed… This brings me today weeks after the fact, they have now sent another card with a short message. Far too late and with no explanation for what happened to her hair, and no mention of the claim or the money they were so eager to secure. This entire experience left me feeling that they care more about payment than compassion, care, or respect for the animals and their families. I would strongly advise others to avoid this practice.

This five stars is for Alison, we have seen her many times now with Inca and she’s always happy to help. She explains things on a level you understand, takes the time to look at the history of your dog and it just feels like you’re having a good chat with a friend and gives you the best genuine advise. She never rushes you out the door even though I’m positive her day is full. She’s an absolute credit to the surgery and you can see her passion for her job and her love for every pet that walks through that door. Thank you Ali

Always greeted with a warm friendly welcome. Vets and nurses are great with Arthur and so considerate to his nervousness. He’s better behaved for them than me! The Pet Health Club is brilliant value including his vaccinations, health checks, flea, tick & worm treatments & nail clipping. I’ve now upgraded to PHC plus which for just an extra £10 pm now includes free consultations! Thank you Dave Cumber Vets.
